Obituary of Deolinda Silva

Peabody, April 8, 2003. Deolinda (Santos) Silva, 95, of Peabody, died early Tuesday morning at her home following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late John S. De Silva. Born and raised in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Joao da Cunha Santos and Gloria Isabel Santos. She was raised and educated in Portugal and taught reading and writing to the children of the Azores, before immigrating to the United States in 1959. She has been a resident of Peabody for over 43 years. She had worked for a few years in the leather industry as a stitcher and seamstress before retiring many years ago. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting and sewing. She is survived by a son, Manuel Silva of Peabody; a daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Tomaz da Guia of Peabody; 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was the sister of the late Cirino, Guilherme, Manuel, Ricarda, Maria, and Rosa Santos. Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Thursday from 5-8 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of Sympathy can be sent to the VNA Partners Home Care, 800 Cummings Ctr, Beverly, Ma 01915.
