Obituary of Peter L Vrettos

Peter L. Vrettos, 87, of Stratham, NH and formerly of Peabody, MA died Monday evening at the Exeter Hospital following a long battle with cancer. He was the devoted husband of Chris Vrettos with whom he shared over 33 years of marriage. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Leonidas and Anne (Karabelas) Vrettos. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School. Following high school, Peter enlisted with the United States Marine Corps and served in active duty during WWII before being honorably discharged in 1946. After the war, Peter served for the town of Boxford, MA as a policeman. He shortly became National Sales Manager for the CIT Company in New York until 1972. He then started his own company, a design build construction firm in the New England area where his firm designed and built bank branches for major banks. He retired at age 65 and his son now continues on running the company. Besides his wife of 33 years, he is survived by two sons and their wives and a daughter: Leo and Laura Vrettos of South Hampton, NH; Theodore and Christine Vrettos of Portsmouth, NH; his daughter, Valerie Vrettos of Wells, ME, his four grandchildren, Peter, Charlie, Tyler and Adrienne and by several nieces and nephews and extended family members. He was predeceased by his siblings, Louis, Charlie, Theodore Vrettos and Bessie Panarites. His funeral will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, MA followed by a Funeral Services at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM and burial will be in CedarGroveCemetery, Peabody, MA. In lieu of flowers, Peter requested a donation to the American Cancer Society.
