Obituary of Katherine Stephanie Grant

Katherine Grant, 21, passed peacefully on Wednesday morning, August 7, 2013, at her home in the comforting presence of her loving family. Katherine was born in Boston, MA on January 11, 1992, daughter of John Grant, of Beverly, and Laurie (Apostolides) Grant, of Peabody. She graduated as Class Treasurer and ranked 18th in her class from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School in 2010, and studied secondary education at Providence College. She built a legacy and countless friendships as an Arava counselor at Camp Hadar in Salem, NH. When she wasn’t making us all smile, she made herself smile with her love for dogs and art, and impeccable taste in movies, music, and books. She was also known for her patented “thumbs up” selfie and posting it on Facebook. In her 21 years, Katherine impacted more people than most do in a lifetime. Her electric personality left those meeting her for the first time calling her their best friend by the end of the night. Her unique combination of kindness, honesty, humor and heart brightened every room she entered. Throughout her 3-year battle with cancer, she constantly showed us that laughter is the best medicine for every tough spot – and she reminded us of that more than anyone. Katherine is survived by her parents; brother Garrett Grant, step-mother Andrea Grant of Beverly; Aunt & Uncle Dorothy and Stephen Apostolides of Peabody; Uncle John Apostolides of Pittsburgh; Aunt Paullette “Polly” Cantwell of Pittsburgh; first cousins Stephen Jr., Nicholas, David, Katie, John Kyle, and Alex; her loving dogs “Boo” and “Cooper” and a wealth of other cousins and friends. Katherine’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, August 9, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Funeral services will be held at Saint Vasilios Church 7 Paleologos Street, Peabody at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 10, 2013. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Katherine Grant Fund, 95 Birch Street, Peabody, MA, 01960 in support of ATRT research.
