Obituary of Maurice Joseph Montion
Maurice Joseph Montion, 80, of Peabody, died Tuesday at the NSMC – SalemHospital after a brief illness. He was the beloved and cherished husband of Dorothy E. (Morin) Montion with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
He was born and raised in Tupper Lake, New York, the son of the late Wilfred and Agnes (Disotell) Montion and was educated there. He then entered the US Navy serving in the Korean War aboard the aircraft carrier USS Leyte and upon his discharge, he settled in Lynn, MA. He had resided in Peabody for the past 55 years.
Maurice had been employed as a foreman at the General Electric Co. in Lynn for over 30 years prior to his retirement in 1989. He was a very skilled and competent Jack of All Trades who enjoyed renovating, repairing, and improving his home and property. He had a kind, cheerful, and generous spirit and was always ready and eager to help out his family, neighbors, and friends who he loved very much and who also loved and respected him. He will be greatly missed by all. Maurice also enjoyed reading and keeping up on current events. He had special interests in military history, natural history, and science.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Stuart Frank of Bethesda, MD, a son and daughter-in-law, David and Noreen Montion of Billerica, his two sisters, Rita La France and Beulah Dechene both of Tupper Lake, NY, his cherished and adoring grandchildren, Allison and Talia Frank of MD and Erin and Lauren Montion of Billerica, MA and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Jane Gehrlein.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2013 from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by A Funeral Mass in St. John the BaptistChurch, 16 Church St., Peabody at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. The family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, and Boston, MA 02110 in his memory.
