Obituary of Anthony "Tony" Mallia
Anthony “Tony” Mallia, 85, of Peabody, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 24 surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. He was the husband of Grace (Peters) Mallia with whom he shared over 61 years of marriage.
Born in Middlebury, VT, he was the son of the late Anthony and Jeannette (Gugliotta) Mallia. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School.
Tony was a veteran of WWII who served with the United States Army during the Occupation of Japan before he was honorably discharged in August of 1947.
After the war, Tony and his brother John operated Mallia Brother’s service station until his retirement. He continued working during his retirement, helping his son Michael operating Mallia’s Towing.
Tony loved life to the fullest and especially loved spending time with his family. He owned several race horses in his younger years, and later he enjoyed his trips to Atlantic City. He loved talking with everyone each and every day while spending his day at the gas station with his son Michael which was very endearing to him.
Besides his loving wife, Tony is survived by his loving children, Michael and his wife Mary Beth, Darlene Harding and her husband Wayne and Cheryl Funchion and her husband Peter, his grandchildren, Mark Funchion and his wife Caroline, Peter Funchion Jr., Anthony Mallia and his wife Barbara, Sean, Mallia, Ashley Mallia, Courtney Mallia, Nicole Harding, Jason Harding and his wife Katie, John Harding and his wife Christine, his great grandchildren, Charlie and Benjamin Funchion, Faith, Gwen, Jacob, and Benjamin Harding, his siblings, Larry Mallia, Carmen Wesala, Georgia Southwick, Mary Cena, and Lucy O’Brien and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, John, Sam, George, and Joe Mallia and Marguarette Cullen.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
