Obituary of Kevin J. O'Boyle

Kevin J. O’Boyle, 31, of Medford and formerly of Brooklyn, NY and Norwalk CT, died on Thursday, August 22, 2013. Raised in Brooklyn, NY, and then Norwalk CT, he was the son of James O’Boyle of Norwalk, CT and Maureen O’Boyle of Lynnfield, MA. He was a graduate of Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk CT, class of 2000. After high school, Kevin enlisted with the United States Army and served two Tours of Duty in Afghanistan before he was honorably discharged in 2006. He later re-enlisted with the Army Reserves for three years before he was discharged from active duty in March of 2012. After his discharge from active duty, he remained a Staff Sergeant in the Massachusetts National Guard. Kevin was awarded the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with four stars, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Global War of Terrorism Service Medal among other numerous medals he received with Regiment 1-182 and the 82nd Airborne Division. Honorably discharged in 2006, he began his employment with the City of Salem’s Fire Department for 5 years and then transferred to the Cambridge Fire Department in June of this year. Kevin enjoyed sketching and illustrating cartoons to the delight of those around him. He was also an avid sports fan who loved the Red Sox and Bruins. Besides his loving parents, he is survived by his sister Caitlin O'Boyle LaClair of Lynnfield, his niece and nephew, Melanie and David, his aunts, Janet Randall and Kathleen Trainor and uncle, Michael O’Boyle. Kevin is also survived by his grandfather, William Sullivan of Peabody. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Marie Sullivan, and Joseph and Marion O’Boyle. His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM and burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
