Obituary of Donald F. Wessels Sr.

Don went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2013 surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness, Born in Malden MA on January 1, 1934. he was a kind and gentle man in the lives of all who knew him. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and a faithful friend who traveled this journey with humor, kindness and love for all. He was preceded in death by his wife Roberta Wessels, his former wife Barbara Callahan, his parents Magdalene & Kenneth Wessels, Sr. and his brother Kenneth Wessels Jr. Don is survived by his loving children, Donald Wessels Jr. of Hawaii, Sharon Caulfield and her husband Robert of Peabody, Karen MacGregor and her husband Bill of Danvers, Scott Wessels and his wife Jody of Haverhill, Laura Brousseau of Wyndhan, NH and Tom Brousseau of Fort Mills, S.C., his ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Arthur Wessels of Wakefield and his sister Evelyn Fitztgerald and her husband Ron of Malden and several nieces and nephews. Don loved his country and served for eight years with the US Army in the Korean War prior to his discharge on Nov 1, 1959. He had been employed with the Payne Elevator Co as an elevator mechanic until retirement several years ago. Don was a faithful member of West Congregational Church, in West Peabody serving on various boards and was a willing helper to all. His absence will leave a void in the lives and hearts of many people. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the 82 Lynn St. Peabody facility. His Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM in West Congregational Church, Johnson St., West Peabody . Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be held on Friday at 10 AM in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of the NorthShore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 in his memory.
