Obituary of Filomena (Nunes) Nunes

Filomena Nunes, 89, of Peabody, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Friday, August 30, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Joao Nunes with whom she shared 51 wonderful years of marriage. Born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal, Filomena and Joao came to the US in 1962 to make a better life for themselves and their 5 children. She had worked at Bleyers Industries in Wakefield until she retired. Her passion was her family; she always wanted to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Some other passions included attending church and crocheting. She spent her time crafting things for the church bazaars at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody. She attended church every Sunday until her recent illness but she continued to pray and read her religious books at home. She also loved to cook large meals and then call her children to tell them that dinner was ready to pick up on their way home from work. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Filomena and David Silveira, her sons and daughter- in-laws, John and his late wife Alice Nunes, Joseph and Susan Nunes, Francis Nunes, Manuel and Valerie Nunes, her grandchildren, Gina, John, Melissa, David Jr.,Daniel, Susan, Jodi, Manuel Jr.amd Derek; her great grandchildren: Justin, Jenna, Kenna, Kinsley, Bo, Sophie and Derek Jr., her Sisters-in-laws, Emelda Silva and Olivia Gullotto, both of Peabody, her brother-in-law, Manuel Mendonca of Graciosa, Azores and several nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in Our lady of Fatima Church, Walsh Ave., Peabody, at 9:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Holy Ghost Society thru the Luso American Credit Union, 37 Tremont St.,. Peabody, MA01960 in her memory.
