Obituary of Maurice C. Evangelista

Maurice C. Evangelista, 90, of Peabody, died early Wednesday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Mary (Pappageorge) Evangelista. Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Sergio and Raffela (Ditizzle) Evangelista. He was raised and educated in Cambridge and has lived in Peabody for the past 50 years. Maurice was employed for over 20 years as a carpenter for the former Lenny Marin Construction Company in Peabody. He also was an instructor at the Fred Astaire’s Dance Studio for many years as well. In additional to his dancing, he also enjoyed crafting and camping. Maurice was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Army. Before being honorably discharged in 1945, he was the recipient of 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Silver and Bronze Stars and the good conduct medal. He was a member of the Peabody Veteran’s of Foreign War post 1011 and the DAV, both in Peabody. Maurice is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends in Peabody and the North Shore. He was predeceased by his siblings Louis, Lawrence, and Sergio Evangelista, Mary, Phyllis Iannelli, Lucy Quintal, Rose Panzeri, Loretta Matroni and Cecile Torchetti. His funeral service will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas the ApostleChurch, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 PM. Burial will be in CedarGroveCemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Team Maureen GYN Research, P.O. Box 422, North Falmouth, MA02556.
