Obituary of Elvira (Loduvino) Bettencourt

Elvira “Vera” J. (Loduvino) Bettencourt, 88, of Peabody and formerly of Danvers, died peacefully and surrounded by family Thursday evening September 5 following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late James Bettencourt. Born in Methuen, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Coelho) Loduvino. She was raised and educated in Methuen and Lawrence, later lived in Danvers for 41 years and has spent the last 16 years living independently in Peabody. Elvira was employed as a fancy stitcher for the Ideal Baby Shoe Company in Danvers for over 15 years before retiring in 1981. Elvira had a “passion for fashion” and took pleasure in being out on the town every day. She enjoyed dancing, vacationing at the beach, knitting, cooking, baking, the company of many friends, and entertaining her family. Mostly, Elvira loved sharing in all of her family’s lives and endeavors. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Donald Harrison of Beverly, her two grandchildren, Tammy and her husband Robert Albano of Beverly and Beth Harrison and her husband Daniel Corey, of Colorado, her beloved great-grandchildren, Ashley Albano and her fiancé Joseph LaPointe and Tyler Albano, all of Beverly and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Mary DeCunto, Helen Jade, and Dennis Ludvino. Following cremation, visiting hours we be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Margin St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the American Diabetes Assoc., 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02110.
