September 14, 2013 - Dear Gabriel family, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved husband and father. I am a Labor & Delivery nurse at Boston Medical Center and worked alongside Dave for many years. We all loved working with him; it was always great to see he was working for that shift. He came with a big smile and a warm friendly attitude. He was an excellent anesthesiologist as well as a great part of the OB team. He was kind and respectful to the patients, and to all of us nurses. Quite frankly, he was a lovely person and this is a sad day indeed. Dave Gabriel was a special man, and I was honored to know him and work with him. God bless you.<br> - Debbie Brooks, RNC of Boston Medical Ctr

Dear Family, my heartfelt sympathy for your great loss. I was only beginning to really know Dr Dave, and yet in only a short time, I came to respect him as a person, admire him as a colleague (MA) & mentor, and fully enjoyed his wonderful sense of humor. Dave once shared some personal words of wisdom that will forever have a profound & positive effect on me. I was honored to call him "FRIEND". Gone too soon, he will be dearly missed, but not forgotten, as he will forever reside in the hearts of all who loved him. I will never forget how Dave stood at the foot of my bed while I was in the throws of a panic attack before having a procedure @ BMC, as soon as he appeared it was like an angel had arrived. He also called me at home and came in on his VACATION to do my anesthesia for major surgery I had in 2002 @ BMC, restoring my trust in doctors after a bad experience. I will never forget the kindness and compassionate way he treated me. He worked closely with my husband, Joe App RN, in the OR @ BMC for many years where they developed a friendship. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to your family as well as to every being that he touched.

Dear Loved Ones of Dave Gabriel and there are many of you. I place myself in that group. I had the honor and pleasure of working with him for his entire career at BCH and BMC and in all those years he lived a special kind of care for everyone...no one was excluded from his kindness and good cheer. In the best of situations and in the worst of situations his professional demeanor calmed many a distraught patient...and perhaps a employee or two. It was the "person" of Dave, in addition to his professional capability, that caused many an employee to request his professional care at their surgical procedure. I knew him to be a person of strong faith which he witnessed by his life. His untimely death is cause for deep sadness and my heart goes out to his wife, his children and family at this time of great loss. Eileen Duff, RN (Retired BCH/BMC Labor and Delivery)

Having walked around in a stupor since learning my good friend Dr. Dave Gabriel has been called home. I feel a sense of selfishness. Dave was that special person who put things in perspective, with wit and rational. Dave gave without looking for return, whether it was his time, intellegence, or any other resource.I take for granted that there is always tomorrow, for unfinished life. What I'd give for one more day...I wasn't prepared to say good bye. The finest tribute I can give is when I called him friend. Until we meet again.

Mere written words can never express the shock, the horror, the inexplicable reason he has been taken from us so soon. He was here for me after Pop died with Jimmy&Francie. Back again with more cousins including dearest Kat after Mom died. But before she died he came with Eloise to see her. No one else did, but Dave did. No mater how age&dementia took hold of her, he always visited his Auntie Annie. Eloise would sing to her. After she passed, I pretty much lost my mind. He looked at me and very sternly said,"Loretta, you would rather she stayed here with you like this than go on to what awaits her?" At first I was kind of taken aback. Why wasn't he holding me &comforting me...but his words still comfort me. It took a few, but I finally realized the enormity of his FAITH. Mine seriousy waned...and now after his death may wane more. But I will keep his words in my heart forever. Because he said it all. What awaits us, where he is now...this is what we must focus on. But how we will live without seeing those twinkling blue eyes again, I have no idea. I am so sorry Eloise, Becky, Terri, Pammy, Davy, Jimmy, Kat and Danny. We will be there soon to be with you, Love Lori&Family
