Obituary of Antonio Santos

Antonio Santos, 79, of Peabody, passed away Wednesday, September 11th, following a fall at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Ataide) Santos. Antonio was born in Graciosa, Azores on July 1, 1934, son of the late Manuel and Rosa (Cunha) Santos. He was raised and educated in Graciosa and moved to the United States 39 years ago. After moving to the U.S., he worked as a laborer for A.C. Lawrence and then for Salem Suede until his retirement. In Peabody, Antonio became active within the Portuguese Community. He was very active in the building and fundraising of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, where he served many years on the church committee. He also served on the committee for the Banda Recreativa Portuguesa in Peabody for many years. Antonio was also a member of the Our Lady of Help Hall, Clube de Luis Camoes, and the Azorean Brotherhood of the Divine Holy Ghost, all in Peabody. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Manny and his wife Maura Santos of Peabody, and Maria Cleary of Wilmington; his grandchildren, Craig Santos, Keith Santos and his wife, Caryn, Kevin Santos, Michael Cleary, and Brooke Cleary; a great-grandchild, Damian Santos; two Sisters-in-law, Delminda and her husband Antonio Santos of Peabody, Maria Santos of Stoneham: a brother-in-law, Manuel Ataide of Peabody. He was predeceased by his brothers Alberto, Jose, David, and Manuel Santos, and a granddaughter, Makenzie Cleary. A Visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 16th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 8:00 AM at the Funeral Home followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody at 9:00 AM.
