Obituary of Mary E. (Flynn) Opidee
Mary E. (Flynn) Opidee, 87, died unexpectedly on Monday evening September 16, 2013 at the North Shore Medical Center—Union Hospital in Lynn.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Mary (Lane) Flynn. She grew up in Roxbury and graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School. She lived in Peabody for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Opidee was a homemaker devoting her life to her children and grandchildren.
Mary was an avid reader and was a member of the South Branch Library Book Club. She was also an enthusiastic sports fan and enjoyed the Red Sox, Patriots and college football games. A gaming adventure to Twin Rivers or Foxwoods, or a friendly neighborhood card game were always welcomed pastimes. Her passion was her family, d she will be remembered for her loving ways and be dearly missed by them.
She is survived by two daughters, Marie Opidee and Marilyn Opidee & her partner William Boneau all of Peabody; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Opidee of Danvers; four grandchildren, Eric & his wife Ioanna Opidee, Alex Opidee, Casey Austin and Jake Austin. Mary is survived by her brother Joseph Flynn & his wife Joan of Hyde Park; a sister Anna Martignetti of Randolph, and three generations of many nieces and nephews, along with many close neighbors and friends. She was preceded in death by a son Michael Opidee, Jr., a daughter Marlene Austin, her brothers John Flynn and Thomas Flynn, and sisters Helen McLaughlin and Catherine Doherty, and was the former wife of the late Michael Opidee, Sr.
Relatives and friends may gather on Friday September 20, 2013 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 – 7 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to either the South Peabody Branch Library, Attn Renee Wood, 78 Lynn St., Peabody, MA 01960 or to The ALS Association, MA Chapter, 315 Norwood Park South, 1st Floor, Norwood, MA 02062.
