Obituary of Marie D. (Markham) Cliffe

Marie D. (Markham) Cliffe, 89, of Peabody, died Sunday morning at the Devereux House Nursing Home in Marblehead after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Maurice J. Cliffe Sr. She was born in Peabody on February 25, 1924, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Dunleavey) Markham and was a lifelong resident graduating from PeabodyHigh School in 1942. Marie had worked for the Commonwealth of MA unemployment office in Salem for 7 years prior to her retiring in 1982. She was a Number One Red Sox fan and enjoyed taking trips and traveling with her husband. She would like to take walks around the Neighborhood and going to the Torigian Center meeting with her friends. The Cliffe family would like to thank the staff and friends at the Devereux Nursing Center for all their love and support during the past year. Marie is survived by her three sons, James C. Cliffe and his companion Gayle of Peabody, John Cliffe of Glen, NH and Maurice and Julie Cliffe of Lynn, her grandchildren Matthew Cliffe and his fiancé Kristina Calisto and Andrew Cliffe and his companion Sara of Peabody, Patrick and Kathleen Cliffe of Lynn and Conor and Courtney Cliffe of Boxford and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John and George Markham. A Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Roger Trask Adult Day Care Center, 79 Central St., Peabody, MA 01960 in her memory.
