Obituary of William H. Babin

William H. Babin LYNN—William H. Babin, 83, beloved husband of Alice (Surette) Babin of Lynn, died peacefully on Sunday October 6, 2013 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a brief illness. Born in Wedgeport, Nova Scotia, Canada, he was the son of the late Herman and Daisy (Couttreau) Babin. He grew up there, and worked as a volunteer Fireman and Taxi Driver in the Yarmouth, Nova Scotia area. After he was married, he moved to Lynn where he lived for the last 59 years. Mr. Babin worked as a Chief Rigger for Riverside Trans in Medford. Once he retired, he worked crating ATM Machines for shipping for Sacco’s Specialized Moving in Wilmington. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 25 of Boston. William was an avid Red Sox fan, and also enjoyed watching other sports. He enjoyed traveling back to Nova Scotia to visit with family and friends. He used his mechanic gifts well as he would be tinkering around the house, and fix cars for family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Alice (Surette) Babin of Lynn, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage; a son William Babin & his wife Cheryl of Peabody; two daughters Linda Turcotte & her husband Joe and Michelle Tahany both of Peabody; four grandchildren, Jill Pridham, David Sarro, Ashley Tahany and Giana Babin; two great-grandchildren, Abbey and Lauren Pridham; a sister Esther Le Blanc of Lynn; a half-brother, Jean Couttreau of Canada, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother Martin Babin and sister Genesta LeBlanc and Alma Couttreau. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday October 11, 2013 at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption in Lynnfield. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 – 8 P.M. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to either the American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Rd., Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451-1991 or to a charity of one’s choice.
