Our thoughts and prayers go out to MaryEllen, Sean and Jamie. Mr. Galaris was a larger than life man for me and my twin brother, Kevin, when we were growing up in Marblehead in the 1980s. He was a kind and wise mentor and we spent many hours at his home, on his basketball court, or in his office at Salem State College. He helped us with our basketball skills, (he was one of the greatest hoopsters ever in the north shore), but more importantly, he helped guide us and many others in positive ways. He showed us that a narrow and almost obsessive focus on basketball could be channeled into business and professional success. He was, first and foremost, a devoted husband who loved and cared deeply for his family. We will never forget his kindness and support.

To Mr. Galaris' Family..........I am so sorry for your loss. When I was in college I worked at Salem State's athletic office one summer. I think it was the first year Mr. Galaris was the Athletic Director. He was so kind to me. I could tell how much he loved his wife and boys. He gave me a beautiful jewelry box at the end of the summer as a thank you gift. I never saw him again after that and was so sorry to hear of his untimely death. With deepest sympathy.

Maryellen, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this time of loss. John was such a strong and creative influence in the many things he did both at the university and in the community. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched over the years. His greatest love, however, was for his family, his wife and sons, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. He loved talking about all of you and the crazy, funny experiences you all had together or individually. We are very sorry for your loss.
Stan Cahill and family, Salem, Massachusetts

John, you were a great person and a great teammate at SSC. I was Jim Twohig's manager 1962 63 64. One of my vivid memories is the team discussion after our 1963 season. Captains Spanger and Remare told us that we would be great because John, you were coming to SSC. Their words were certainly prophetic. At the University of Dayton in 1970, I was reading about you on the top list of basketball scorers, and I told my friends that I had run the scorebook in your first year at SSC. I was proud to be a little part of your great career.
My best feelings and prayers for your family
Ed Chapdelaine

Over the years my life crossed paths with John. Whether it was in High School at St. Joseph's we would find him showing us how to shoot pool at Fred Thibeault's pool hall on Lafayette Street. Playing basketball at the Salem "Y" or in the recreation leagues. In the early eighties John, who was a year ahead of me, at Suffolk University's Executive MBA program helped me with that curriculum. Later in business when I had John as a customer at Danvers Savings Bank. Finally, when I went to work at Heritage Bank, John was a director there and again willing to help. GOD bless John and your big big heart RHIP.
