Obituary of Georgianna "Jean" (Freitas) Sousa

Georgianna “Jean” (Freitas) Sousa, 95, of Peabody, died early Saturday morning at the Essex Park Nursing Home in Beverly following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late George F Sousa. Born in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Isabella (Rodrigues) Freitas. She first lived in New York, but later moved to Peabody where she has lived for most of her life. She was a beautician for many years and was employed at Jean’s Beauty Salon in Peabody for over 30 years. She later was employed as a cashier at Dot and Ray’s Lunch in Salem for many years before she finally retired. In her retirement, Georgianna enjoyed traveling and playing beano and enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by two sons, John “Jack” and his wife Eileen Sousa of Salem, NH and George Sousa of Florida, her daughter, Judith Sousa of Peabody, and is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, George, Albert, and Joseph Freitas, Mary Peterson, Tilly Esteeves and Gloria D’Elia. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
