Obituary of Shirley Ann (Armstrong) Hockenhull

Shirley Ann (Armstrong) Hockenhull, 93, wife of the late George D. Hockenhull, died surrounded by her loving family at her daughter’s home in Gloucester on Thursday, November 7, 2013. Shirley was born in Peabody, on May 22, 1920, the daughter of George and Lottie (Wright) Armstrong. She was raised and educated in Peabody, and resided in Lynn for 25 years Middleton and for the past 2 ½ years with her daughter Sharon in Gloucester. Shirley was employed as a sales clerk at Burrows & Sanborn Department Store and also at S.S. Kresge at the Northshore Mall in Peabody. In 1985 she became involved with the City of Peabody Meals on Wheel Program. Shirley was a loving mother who devoted her life to creating a home for her family and was so proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their achievements. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sharon Ivey of Gloucester, her grandchildren, Alisha Malo and her husband Darren Hart, and Brianna Ivey all of Gloucester; her great grandchildren, Chris, Darrien, Freddy; a sister, Barbara Prescott of Middleton, a daughter-in-law, Elisa Hockenhull of Lynn, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Stephen Hockenhull and her siblings Robert, Kenneth, Richard, Donald, George Jr., Blanche, Marilyn, Doris and Ruth. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
