Obituary of James J. Hinchion

James J. Hinchion of Peabody died peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 12, 2013 after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of the late Beverly (Hastings) for sixty years. Born and raised in Peabody, he attended Dartmouth College. He served his country in WW11 in the US Navy as a Yeoman and was in four battles in the Pacific Theatre Campaign. Following his discharge, he remained active with the veterans in his community and served as a commander of the Peabody American Legion, Post 153. His career in the post office spanned thirty-four years where he retired in 1986 after serving six years as Postmaster. He had been a life –long avid sports fan and was a founding member of the Peabody Little League and devoted many years to coaching the Little League Cardinals. He was actively engaged in all sports in Peabody and for many years he did the chains at Peabody High Football games. In later years, he continued his love of sports by attending the many sporting events of his grandchildren. Affectingly called “Hinch”, he was adored by family and friends and admired for his leadership, his sense of humor and his devotion to his family, which was his proudest accomplishment that he shared with his wife, Bev. He is survived by his four children, James Hinchion and his wife Geralyn of Danvers, John Hinchion and his partner, Elizabeth Richard of Salisbury, MA, Nancy Hinchion of Madison, CT., and Paul Hinchion and his wife Elizabeth of Peabody, his brother, Frank Hinchion of Salisbury, MD, his sister, Betty Ann Quinlan of Peabody, his brother-in-law Cedric Hastings of Longmeadow, MA, his cherished 11 grandchildren, James and his wife Keri Hinchion of Danvers, Colleen Rosa and her husband Michael of Medford, Keith Hinchion and his wife Rosemarie of Winthrop, Kristine Hinchion of Amesbury, Beth and her companion Jamie Mooney of Billerica, Shawn Worsencoft of Chelsea, Kerry Worsencroft and her companion Gary Linke of Hamden, CT, Patrick Hinchion and his wife Wheaton and John Hinchion and his wife Julie all of Peabody, Michael Hinchion and his fiancé, Lizzie Paulino of Salem and Daniel Hinchion of Peabody, his devoted 13 great grandchildren, Courtney, Riley, Brayden, Leah, Michael, Gabriella, Stephen, Delaney, Tyler, Melanie, Emerson, Paxton and Cedric as well as many nieces, nephews and loyal friends. He was the brother of the late Marie Lastih/ Guilfoyle. A Visitation will be held on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’s Church, Church St., Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
