Francis J. Lowry, Jr.
PEABODY—Francis J. Lowry, Jr., 87, beloved husband of Mildred (Rogers) Lowry of Peabody and a retired Police Lieutenant for the City of Lynn, died peacefully on Monday afternoon at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, while in the comforting presence of his family.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Mary (Curran) Lowry, Sr. He grew up there and graduated from Lynn Classical High School. He later graduated from Anna Maria College and earned a Masters Degree from Northeastern University in Criminal Justice. He lived in Peabody for the last 40 years.
Mr. Lowry was a veteran of World War II, with patriotic service in the United States Navy.
He worked for General Electric for a short time, and then started with the Lynn Police Department. He worked his way up the ranks to Lieutenant, serving 35 years on the department before retiring 22 years ago.
Frank enjoyed his career, and then in retirement traveled all over the world with his wife. He was happiest when returning home to be with his family, and especially cherished time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Rogers) Lowry of Peabody, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage; two daughters Debra Lowry of Andover and Gayle & her husband Ed Tringale of Peabody; a son Francis Lowry, III, & his wife Mary of Peabody; seven grandchildren, Daniel Berman & his wife Lindsay and Jason Berman, Tyler and Abigayle Tringale, and Francis Lowry, IV, Michael and Sydney Lowry; three brothers, Bill Lowry of Peabody, Thomas Lowry of Newburyport, and Ronald Lowry of NH; two sisters, Mary Jane Comeau of Peabody and Susan Felteau of CA, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by a sister Margaret Murphy.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday December 20, 2013 at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of Assumption Church, Lynnfield. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 – 8 P.M. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to Kaplan Family Hospice House, c/o Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
