Obituary of Bryce E. Murray
Bryce E. Murray, 82, of West Peabody, died suddenly on Monday, December 30, 2013 after being taken to Lahey Medical Center, Peabody. He was the devoted husband to Frances (Bourgeois) Murray with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
He was born in Boston, MA on April 12, 1931, the son of the late Alfred and Claire (Chisholm) Murray and had resided in Peabody most of his life. He was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1949 and attended the University of Massachusetts. He proudly served in the US Navy until his discharge in 1954.
Bryce began his professional career with New England Tel. and Tel. and worked primarily in Salem, Revere, Everett and Saugus. Retiring from NYNEX after 30 years as a Fiber Optics Engineer, he continued his career in a consulting capacity in Honolulu, Hawaii and Budapest, Hungary.
He was very active in the early years of St. Adelaide’s Church. Bryce was a member of the original Usher’s Club and past president of the Holy Name Society. Along with his beloved wife Fran, he enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and ultimately visited five of the seven continents. A voracious reader, Bryce was a frequent visitor at the West Peabody Branch Library. He loved to garden and had quite a green thumb, cultivating expansive flower and vegetable gardens in his yard. His most cherished accomplishment however, was his loving family; he adored his wife, children and ten grandchildren.
Surviving him in addition to his wife Fran are four daughters; Marie Murray of Charlestown, Cecile and her husband Timothy McCarthy of Beverly, Eileen and her husband Dion Malala of Lynnfield and Michelle and her husband Daniel Horgan of Hamilton, a brother Arnold Murray, his cherished grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Brendan and Bryce McCarthy of Beverly; Sarah, Micah and Leah Malala of Lynnfield; and Emily, Olivia, Paul and James Horgan of Hamilton; his brother-in-laws, Rev. Louis Bourgeois of the Salem Collaborative at St. James Church, Salem, Deacon Joseph Bourgeois, S.S.S. of Cleveland, Ohio, his sister-in-law, Ann Marie McCarthy of Milton and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Paul Murray and the brother of the late Alfred I. Murray and Claire Molloy.
