Ronald E. Petro
LYNN—Ronald “Ron” Petro, 67, beloved husband of Catherine (McTague) Petro, died peacefully on Sunday morning January 5, 2014 at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading, while in the comforting presence of his family.
Born in Pasadena, CA, he was the son of the late Charles and Marion (Fitzgerald) Petro. He grew up in Lynn and graduated from Lynn Classical High School. He lived in Swampscott for 15 years before moving back to Lynn.
He enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War.
After serving his patriotic duty, he enrolled at Newbury Junior College while working at General Electric in Lynn.
Ron had an entrepreneurial spirit and founded his business, North Shore Telecom which he operated for 35 years until his recent retirement, and he proudly handed over ownership to his son Ron Petro.
He was a member of the Greater Lynn Chamber of Commerce, coached baseball for Swampscott Little League, and enjoyed golfing. He was most passionate about his family and spending time with grandchildren, and going to Bruins games with his friend Bill Dandreo.
He is survived by his wife Catherine (McTague) Petro of Lynn, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage; one son Ronald Petro & his significant other Colleen Farrell of Wakefield; a daughter, Stacey & her husband Keith Messina of Marblehead; two grandchildren, Matthew and Mia Messina of Marblehead; two brothers Charles Petro of Pasadena, CA and Robert Petro of Georgetown. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Petro of Georgetown.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for his Funeral Service on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 11 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 7 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Swampscott Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Sawtelle Family Hospice House, c/o VNA Visiting Nurse Hospice, 607 North Ave., Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.
