Obituary of Calvin N. Skarmos
Peabody, May 3, 2003, Calvin N. Skarmos, 79, of Peabody, died late Friday evening at Union Hospital, Lynn after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Florence (Kaminski) Skarmos with whom he shared over 56 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Peabody, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Angeliki (Tsaltas) Skarmoutgos. He was a lifelong resident and attended schools in Peabody graduating from Peabody High School in 1942.
After High School, he entered the United States Army and served for two years during World War II. After the war, he worked for over 40 years as a salesman for Dealer Supply Co., in the Boston area selling paints and paint supplies. After his retirement he worked part time in the paint department at Home Depot in Danvers.
He was a skilled carpenter and woodworker, who annually built a manger for St. John the Baptist Church Bazaar as well as for his family and friends first child. He also enjoyed golfing and was a former member of the Haverhill Country Club.
Besides his loving wife he is survived by a son Paul Skarmos of Yarmouth, Maine; a sister Georgia Retos of Peabody; 2 nephews, James Retos of Peabody and Peter and his wife Debbie Retos of Foxboro and 2 nieces, Debbie and her husband David Tetreault of Falmouth, Maine, and Cheryl and her husband Kevin Bourque of North Reading.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church at 9:00 a.m. to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
