Obituary of Praskuta "Pat" (Timocin) Makridis
Praskuta, “Pat” (Timocin) Makridis passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers on Friday, January 24, 2014 after a long battle with illness. She leaves behind a still adoring husband, Yani of Salem, 3 children, Apostolos and Susan Makridis of Marblehead, Iris Mello of Peabody, and Chrysostomos Makridis of Boston; 7 grandchildren, Natalie, Andrew, Christina, Timothy, Gregory, Michael, and John.
Pat was born on April 1, 1938, in Bandirma, Turkey to ethnic Russian parents, Ivan and Anna Timocin. In 1957, she married her husband Yani, in Constantinople, where she bore her first son, Apostolos, and a daughter, Iris, and later moved to Cyprus and had Chrysostomos. Pat arrived in the US in 1973, reuniting with her parents, who emigrated earlier.
Pat, as her fiends knew her, first worked alongside her mother in sweatshop conditions, at a leather factory known to most as "Charlie's" in Peabody. She eventually found work as a seamstress at the prestigious Altalier, LH Rogers and later at the famed Akris Boston on Newbury Street where she truly enjoyed working for a little over 12 years until her retirement.
Pat loved to travel with her husband, Yani, mostly on trips organized through the Church. She was also known to have enjoyed a trip to Foxwoods Casino once in a while. Pat always had a happy disposition and a lighthearted attitude, was a devout Orthodox Christian and loved going to church.
