Obituary of Edward J. Arsenault, Sr.
Edward J. Arsenault, Sr., 79, of Peabody, husband of Georgia E. (Noyes) Arsenault, died at his home with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, January 29, 2014.
Ed was born in Chelsea, on September 5, 1934 the son of the late Emile and Josephine (Gaudet) Arsenault. He was raised in Chelsea and graduated from Brandeis Vocational High School. He then pursued his education at Fitchburg State College with a major in electronics. In 1952, he enlisted in the Army National Guard and served for 11 years before being honorably discharged with the rank of SFC E7.
Ed began his working career at Raytheon Company and then worked for a few years at Sanders Associates in NH. He furthered his education in auto mechanic and opened Ed’s Service Inc. which he owned and operated for 43 years. The family business is presently operated by his 2 sons. While his youngest daughter attended PVMHS, Ed taught electronics for a year.
Ed dedicated his entire life to creating a home atmosphere for family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was very involved at St. John the Baptist Church and served on the Parish Council for many years, was also a member of the choir, a member and President of the North Shore Organ Society, Peabody Lions Club, enjoyed square dancing and going on cruises. “He will be well remembered for his story telling”.
In addition to his wife with whom he shared 59 years of marriage, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Christine Perkins, Susan Arsenault, Edward J. Jr. and Jeanne Arsenault, and Michael Arsenault all of Peabody, and Jeanne and Tom Mason of Longwood, FL; 17 grandchildren, Jamie (Perkins) Freedman, Jason Perkins, Timothy, Dennis, and Matthew Arsenault, Christopher, Samantha (Arsenault) Livingstone, Bradley and Emily Arsenault, Heath and Kyle Liford, Tiffany, Mallory, Veronica, Hannah, Benjamin and Noah Mason; 10 great grandchildren, Chase, Isaac, Sevrin, Callie Rose, Leah, Noah, Kylie, Jayden, Mia and Brayden; his siblings, Noel Arsenault of SC, Bernice DeRoche and Theresa O’Driscoll of Chelsea, Dorothy LeGere of Nova Scotia, Marie Garrett of LA, Lorraine Barnacle of MO, Doris Doucette of Reading and Margie Pazzero of NC, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son George Arsenault in 2000 and his siblings Eva Polito, Lawrence Arsenault and Tilmon Arsenault.
His family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on Monday, February 3, 2014 at 10 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody.
