James A. Lapointe
DANVERS—James A. Lapointe, 78, beloved husband of Maureen (Viera) Lapointe of Danvers, died peacefully on Sunday February 23, 2014.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Joseph and Katherine (Nadeau) Lapointe. He grew up there and graduated from Peabody High School. He then attended Northeastern University for his undergraduate and graduate study up to earning his doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering. He also studied at M.I.T.
Mr. Lapointe enjoyed his career in Engineering working for Ratheon Company, Sanders Associates, and GenRad Corporation. He also combined his entrepreneurial spirit to start his own company, Syscom Associates, and worked as an independent contractor for Unysis Corporation supporting the Department of Transportation. Among many of his patents, one achievement lead to development of the Radar Gun, and also the Gargoyle Computer Security System.
Besides engineering, he designed the Dome House for the Gum Drop Candy House on Route 1 in Rowley and operated a candy business. He also operated Lapointe Realty of Danvers, collected antiques and was an Auctioneer.
Jim was devoted to his Roman Catholic faith and was a member of the Third Order of Carmelite. He was an avid supporter of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns in Danvers, had an active role at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers as both a Eucharistic Minister and CCD Teacher. He enjoyed dancing with his wife, and together they attended many Big Band/Swing Band dances around the North Shore.
He is survived by his wife Maureen (Viera) Lapointe of Danvers, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage; three sons and their spouses, Jay & Sandy Lapointe of Andover, Brian & Irina Lapointe of South Dennis, and Dana & Alecia Lapointe of West Brookfield; 10 grandchildren, and a brother Edward Lapointe.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Thursday February 27, 2014 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Danvers. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 7 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Expressions of sympathy may be made to either St. John's Preparatory School, Office for Institutional Advancement, 72 Spring Street, Danvers, MA 01923 designated for the Brother Linus Scholarship Fund, or to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns, 15 Mt Carmel Rd, Danvers, MA 01923.
