Obituary of Severino A. Vargas, Sr.

Severino A. “Toñito” Vargas Sr., 83, of Peabody, passed away Tuesday evening at the NSMC-Salem Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Altagracia) Vargas. Severino was born on November 8, 1930 in the Dominican Republic, son of the late Baldemiro Duran and Juana Vargas. He was raised and educated there, and worked as a truck driver, until moving to the United States in 1971. While in the U.S. he worked as a tanner for Sirois Leather Co. in Peabody. Some of his interests were playing cards, dominoes, watching baseball, and wearing baseball caps from any team, even though he was a Boston fan at heart. Along with his sense of humor, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Xiomara & Angel Garcia of Salem, Javier & Jocelyn Vargas of Lynn, Candida & John Bouchard of Peabody, Hilda & Michael Record of ME, Pedro Vargas of Florida, Jay Vargas of Peabody, and Tony & Jennifer Vargas of Peabody, 19 loving grandchildren, especially Kelvin Espinal, who he cherished as a son, 3 great-grandchildren, and several brothers & sisters. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 9, from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on Monday, March 10 at 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home followed by a Mass in St. John’s the Baptist Church, Peabody, at 11:00 AM. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn.
