Obituary of Jean Louise (Haines) Wheeler

Jean Louise (Haines) Wheeler, 86, wife of the late Gardner Trask Wheeler, died after a long illness on Sunday, March 9, 2014, with her family by her side at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Jean was born in Peabody, on November 17, 1927, daughter of the late Clarence G. and Eva M. (Larrabee) Haines. She was raised, educated in Peabody graduating from Peabody High School, and was a lifelong resident of the city. Jean was employed and retired from the Peabody School Cafeteria system following many years of dedicated service to the city. Jean was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother who devoted her life to creating a home for her family. She coordinated many trips to Atlantic City, Las Vegas and New York. She was an avid bingo player and bowled for 32 years with the Sunnyside Bowladrome Wednesday morning league. Jean is survived by her 3 sons, Brian K. Wheeler and his wife Susan of Marblehead, Bruce A. Wheeler of Salem and Jeffrey S. Wheeler of Salisbury; 8 grandchildren, Scott Lucero, Susan Perot, Stephanie Allison, Shawn Lucero, Holly Wheeler, Amy, Paige and Kyle Wheeler; 6 great grandchildren, Christopher, Katie and Wes Carter Lucero, Austin and Kristian Perot, Oscar Allison; 3 nieces, Sandra Speliotis, Cynthia Bettencourt and Gloria Franciose all of Peabody, and a dearest best friend, Grace Mallia. Jean was predeceased by her daughter, Donna Wheeler and her sisters, Lillian Ricci, Gertrude Moskevich, Shirley Bettencourt and Hazele Towler. As per Jean’s request a private family funeral services was held at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Peabody following her cremation at Harmony Grove Crematory in Salem. The family request’s that memorial donations be made in Jean’s name to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA 01923.
