Shirley M. (O’Hennessy) (Spaulding) Allen
PEABODY-- Shirley M. (O’Hennessy) (Spaulding) Allen, 91, of Peabody, wife of the late Robert “Bob” Allen, died peacefully at North Shore Medical Center--Salem Hospital on Thursday March 13, 2014.
Born in Newburyport, she was the daughter of the late Doris (Noyes) O’Hennessy. She grew up there and attended Newburyport High School. She then attended Secretarial School.
Mrs. Allen nurtured her family at home. She also worked for Towle Silver, and mostly as a Quality Control Inspector of Printed Circuit Boards at Western Electric which became A.T. & T. She also had several jobs as a Waitress with the Lanham Club of Andover, and other restaurants include the Kitchen Window of North Andover, Fanny Farmer at North Shore Mall, and the Bavarian Struedel Shop in Methuen.
Shirley enjoyed ballroom dancing, and in her youth she was involved in gymnastics. She was a Den Mother with the Boy Scouts in Newburyport, active in the Order of Demolay and the Ladies Auxilliary of Elks in Newburyport. She also was good with crochet and other craft items.
She is survived by a son Bruce Spaulding of Peabody, and a daughter Janet Violette & her husband Robert of Peabody; one granddaughter Chantelle Proia of Lynn; a brother Richard Sunman of Newbury; a niece and 2 nephews, Marcia Sunman, Ricky Sunman, and David Sunman. She was the former wife of Jim Spaulding.
A private family Funeral Service was held in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home with burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH.
