Obituary of Ludwinie "Lillian" Fisher

Ludwinie “Lillian” Fisher, 104, of Medford, formerly of Somerville, died March 20 in Medford. She was the beloved daughter of the late Michael and Eva (Mestyk) Fisher. She was the sister of the late Bennie, Eddie, Helen Beeton, Chester, Walter, Joseph, Charlie, Wallace, Frank, Stanley Fisher, and Charlotte (Micale) Fisher. She leaves many nieces and nephew and their children. Born March 30, 1909 in Troy, NY, she was a noted and skilled handicraft artist in crochet, needlepoint, knitting, and dress making. After a horrible childhood, she became an adult caregiver to several of her siblings who looked on her as their mother, as their own was incapacitated. Severe poverty and major illness followed the family, but she persevered. She moved to Somerville in 1943 and remained on her own, independent and strong-willed until 2011, when she moved to The Courtyard in Medford. I, just one of many people, loved her very much; she was not just my aunt and godmother, but a surrogate grandmother to me as well, nephew Frank Micale. Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which family and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral from 10:30 until 11:30 AM. Burial services will be private.
