Obituary of Mary E. (Fitzpatrick) Goodwin
The Children of Mary E. (Fitzpatrick) Goodwin are saddened to share that their mom was called home to Heaven on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. Mary’s family was at her side and lovingly placed her into Gods arms.
Mary was born in Salem, on April 13, 1925, daughter of the late William and Mabel (McDonald) Fitzpatrick. She was raised in Salem, graduated from Salem High School, and worked at the famous Parker Brothers in Salem, MA for several years. In 1962 she moved to Peabody, MA where she raised her family and spent the remainder of her life. During which time, she devoted 30 years working at Ann & Hope and became an icon known simply as “Maryellen from Curtains.”
She was a loving mother who devoted her life to creating a home for her family. Mary loved to play bingo, enjoyed trips to Foxwoods, and was a fixture at the Peter A. Torigian Community Life Center. She took great joy in teaching her grandchildren to play cards and sharing stories of her childhood.
Mary leaves behind 3 daughters, Ellen Mendonca and Diane Goodwin of Peabody, and Sheila Isbell and her fiancée, Christopher Mullett of ME; a son and his wife, Michael and Rosanne Goodwin of Peabody; her precious grandchildren, Lisa and Paul deLuccia, John M. Mendonca, Jr., Christopher Goodwin, Mallory Goodwin, Samantha and Josh Gilman and Nicole Isbell; 4 great-grandchildren, John Paul deLuccia, Lillyanna deLuccia, Allyson Gilman and Nova Hall; a brother and his wife, David and Carol Fitzpatrick of FL; a brother-in-law, Roger Brennan of Peabody, and many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her siblings, Joan “Joni” Brennan, Jean White, Claire Dombrowski, Eleanor Kielbasa, Robert, Donald, John “Jackie” and William “Harry” Fitzpatrick, and also her beloved son-in-law, John M. Mendonca, Sr., in 2005.
Her family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 10 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 260 North St., Salem (/Peabody line.)
