Obituary of William F. "Bill" Darmody, Jr.

William F. “Bill” Darmody, Jr., 83, of Salem, husband of Ann F. (Andreano) Darmody, died at home with his family by side on Thursday, March 27, 2014. Bill was born in Peabody, on November 15, 1930, son of the late William F. and Mary (Lawless) Darmody. He was raised in Salem and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1948. In 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served State side during the Korean War, receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1955. He pursued his education at Merrimac College in Andover attaining HIS Degree in Business Administration. Bill was employed for 25 years as a store keeper at EG&G in Salem until his retirement in 1993. He devoted his life creating a home for his family, and was so proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Everyone will remember him walking his dogs Max & Jake in the neighborhood. In addition to his wife Ann with whom he shared 55 years of marriage, Bill is survived by his children and their spouses, Deborah and Tim Bresnahan of Peabody, Mary and Dave Doliber of Lebanon, ME, Bill and Cheryl Darmody, Edward and Kerri Darmody all of Salem, and Matthew and Janet Darmody of Phoenix, AZ; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Sr. William Marie Darmody S.N.D. As per his request, a private family graveside committal of ashes will be held. The family requested that memorial contributions be made in Bill’s name to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 30 Jeffrey Neck rd., Ipswich, MA 01938. Arrangements are by the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody.
