Obituary of Alexandrina Veiga

PEABODY— Alexandrina Veiga, 89, of Peabody, passed away Saturday evening at the PeabodyGlenHealthcareCenter following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Serafin Veiga. Alexandrina was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on January 9, 1925, daughter of the late Antonio Ataide and Maria Gloria Ataide. She was raised in Portugal until immigrating to Peabody in 1970. For many years she worked at Sirois Leather in Peabody and then worked at Bleyer Industries in Wakefield, as an assembler, until her retirement in 1990. Mrs. Veiga was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody. She enjoyed baking Portuguese deserts for family and friends. Spending time with her family was the most important aspect of her life. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be truly missed. She is survived by her four children, Manuel Heliodoro Veiga and wife Elisa of Wakefield, Maria Salvona and husband Paul of Peabody, Manuel Gregorio Veiga and wife Antonina of Lowell and Maria Amelia Santos and husband Gabriel of Tewksbury her six grandchildren, Elizabeth Mendonca and husband Steve, Kevin Veiga, Emily Veiga, Danny Santos and wife Melissa, Jason Santos and Alisha Veiga; her two great-grandchildren Sophia and Avery Santos; her sister Maria Lourdes Bettencourt of Peabody. She was predeceased by her six siblings, Laurinda Ataide, Manuel Ataide, Mariana Silva, Jeronima Ortins, Maria da Gloria Silva, and Alavarina Silva. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:00 AM at the Funeral Home followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association http://www.diabetes.org/.
