Obituary of Alfred J. Shiner, Sr.

Alfred J. Shiner, Sr., 81, beloved husband of Priscilla (Roina) Shiner, died at home with his family by his side on Monday, March 31, 2014. Alfred was born in Malden, on July 22, 1932, son of the late Charles and Zella (Vietch) Shiner, and was raised and educated in Malden. In 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 1014 Hq. Co., 2nd Bn, 31st Inf. and was honorably discharged on October 15, 1954. Prior to moving to Peabody in 2002, he resided in Melrose for 22 years. Alfred was the owner of Shiner Test Borings in Melrose a business he operated for 30 years until his retirement. He devoted his life to his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a former member of Point of Pines Yatch Club in Revere and the Saugus-Everett Lodge of Elks #642. In addition to his wife with whom he shared 61 years of marriage, he was the loving father and father-in-law of Alfred J. Shiner, Jr., and Eileen Shiner of Peabody, Caren and Richard Ells of Lynnfield, and Darlene and Fred Willis of Marblehead; cherished grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of 9; devoted brother of Charles Shiner and his wife Anna of Malden, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Rita Whynot. His family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 4 to 8p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 10:45 a.m./ followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon at St. Adelaide Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody.
