Obituary of Stavritsa Zakas

Stavritsa (Diacogeorgiou) Zakas PEABODY--Stavritsa (Diacogeorgiou) Zakas, 81, beloved wife of Arthur Zakas, died peacefully in her sleep early Saturday morning at the Salem Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Samos, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Konstantinos and Yiasimoula (Hatzigeourgiou) Diacogeorgiou. She left Greece to come to the United States, settling in Peabody in 1947 where she lived for the last 58 years. She became a U.S. Citizen in 1968, and was an active member at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody. She is survived by: her husband, Arthur Zakas of Peabody, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage; two sons and daughters-in-law, Speros & Linda Zakas of Salem and Charles & Joan Zakas of Peabody; one daughter and son-in-law, Jane & Phillip Kritikos of Athens, Greece; six grandchildren; one sister, Evangelia Chongris of Samos Greece, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John Diacogeorgiou and Haralambos Diacogeorgiou, and a sister Vasileia Kokkinou. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 10 AM in St. Vasilios Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 P.M. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
