Obituary of Lillian M. (Spence) Cooper

Lillian M. (Spence) Cooper, 88, of Peabody, died early Monday morning at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Pride Cooper with whom she shared over 60 years of marriage. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Elizabeth (Newton) Spence. A lifelong resident of Peabody, she attended Peabody Public Schools and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1935. She first worked as an assembler for General Electric in Lynn and later as a part-time bookkeeper for Gagnon Welding in Peabody before retiring many years ago. She also enjoyed gardening as well as volunteering at several Nursing Homes on the North Shore. She was a long time member of St. Paul’ s Episcopal Church in Peabody. Besides her loving husband, she is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Pamela Bello of Richmond, VA and Barbara and Ken Amero of Peabody, a brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Virginia Spence of Peabody, a brother-in-law, Arthur Gagnon of Peabody, one grandchild, Dayne M. Kaufman of Richmond, VA and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Madeline Gagnon. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’ s Episcopal Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, Ma 01923 or St. Paul’ s Episcopal Church, 12 Washington St., Peabody, MA 01960.
