Obituary of Irene Diskes

Peabody, May 15, 2003. Irene (Stamation) Diskes, 85, of Peabody, former owner of the Century House Restaurant in Peabody, died unexpectedly Thursday evening at her home. She was the wife of the late Andrew J. Diskes. Born and raised in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Evangeline (Georges) Stamation. She had lived in Peabody for most of her life and attended Peabody Schools. She and her husband Andrew J. Diskes were founders of the Century House Restaurant in 1957. She worked along side her husband until his death in 1963. She later took over all responsibilities of the restaurant from waitressing, hosting and other task until her retirement in 1986. After her retirement, she enjoyed extensive travel all over the world. She sailed on many cruises aboard the Queen Elizabeth II and visited many countries. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren and at one time was a member of the Massachusetts Restaurant Association. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Pat Diskes of Middleton and George Diskes of Painesville, Ohio; a daughter and son-in-law, Evangeline and Ted Jones of Peabody; three sisters and two brother-in-laws, Lena and Angelo Metaxatos, and Mary Febonio, all of Danvers, and Ismene and Kemon Dukas of Saugus; 7 grandchildren, Cynthia, Deborah, Andrew, Caitlin, Athan, Ellen, and Andrew; 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late George Stamation and Antigone Baras. Her funeral service will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
