Obituary of Sophocles J. "Easy" Kritikos
Sophocles J. “Easy” Kritikos, 94, devoted husband of the late Helen J. (Maloney) Kritikos, died on Friday, April 25, 2014 with his family by his side at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers.
Soph was born on November 25, 1919, in Lynn, son of John and Vasilo “Bessie” (Tsavalas) Kritikos. He was raised in Lynn and graduated from Lynn Classical High School in 1938. He enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served as a TEC 4 until receiving his Honorable discharge in 1946.
Soph was a hairdresser who owned and operated Roberts Beauty Salon in Salem for 35 years until his retirement in 1984. During High School he was an avid basketball player and throughout the years he played on St. Georges Church league and the Elite Grill Basketball Team in Lynn. In his younger years he also tried out for the Philadelphia Phillies Baseball Team and enjoyed watching all sports. Soph will be well remembered for his great sense of humor entertaining people telling jokes and making them laugh, dancing and singing at the day care and at different variety shows at the Peter Torigian Community Life Center in Peabody.
Soph is survived by his sister, Tina S, Kennery of Peabody and her companion Ted Vallas; his nieces and nephews, Andrew and Terri Carbaliotis of FL, Cindy Lupassakis of CT, John Kritikos of Lynn, and Peter and Barbara Kritikos of Salem, Elaine Demetroulakos of Lowell and Bobby and Cheryl Andrews of Beverly Farms; 3 Godsons, Peter Kritikos, Greg Andrews and Luke Andrews; a dear friend, Dee Lewis of NH; many grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings, Ethel Andrews, Julia Kritikos and George Kritikos.
His family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 9 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a service at 10 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Lynn. The family requested donations be made in Soph’s name to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 54 South Common St., Lynn, MA 01902 or to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
