Obituary of William E. Elwell

William E. “Bill” Elwell William E. (Bill) Elwell, 82, Loving Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather Peabody- William E. Elwell of Peabody Massachusetts died peacefully at Rosewood Rehabilitation Center on May 7, 2014 following a brief illness. Born in Salem on December 8, 1931, he was the son of late Andrew and Ruth (Curtin) Elwell. Bill originally resided in Topsfield and later moved to Peabody where he has made his home for the past 58 years. He graduated from Topsfield High school and furthered his education at Tilton Prep School. He graduated with a business degree from Boston University. A loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he was the husband of the late Madelyn (Silva) Elwell with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Mr. Elwell served his country with the United States army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. Bill was a very successful independent sales representative for Mitchell 1 Information Services. During his long tenure he received numerous awards and was frequently named top Salesman on the East Coast. Prior to his work as a salesman Bill owned and operated Andy’s Fly Tying. During this time, he designed and developed a dry fly, which was once highlighted in the classic outdoor magazine Field and Stream. Many will remember Bill as an avid golfer. He was a member of Salem Country Club and Beverly Golf and Tennis. Most weekends he could be found out on the course or at home watching the golf channel. He is survived by his three children Deborah and Kevin Donovan, William and Ann Elwell, Kimberly and Kosta Karazurna; 7 grandchildren, Jaclyn and Anthony Penny, Bradford and Christopher Donovan, Lindsey and Jonathan Elwell, Chrissy and Nikki Karazurna as well as 2 great-grandchildren, Henry and Sophia Penny; his sister and brother-in-law Susan and Charles Currier; sister-in-law Angela Silva, and many nieces nephews, and cousins. The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, May 11, 2014 from 4 – 7 PM at Conway, Cahill- Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street Peabody. His funeral will be held on Monday May 12, 2014 at 9 A.M. at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Margin St., Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in William’s memory to the Autism Support Center, 6 South Side Road, Danvers Ma 01923.
