Obituary of Antonio P Furtado

Antonio P. Furtado, 65, husband of Rose M. (Carvalho) Furtado, died on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 with his family by his side at Salem Hospital. Antonio was born in Sao Miguel, Azores, on September 28, 1948, son of the late Jose P. and Maria (DeSantos) Furtado. He was educated in the Azores and enlisted in the Portuguese Army and served in Angola. In 1972, he immigrated to the U.S. making his home in Cambridge and in 1980 he and his wife made their home in Peabody. Antonio Captained a fishing boat in the Azores and after moving to the U.S. he was employed for 20 years at the Old Salem Shoe Company in Salem and leather companies in Peabody. He was a devoted father who devoted his life to his family, babysitting his grandchildren and playing musical instruments for them in the back yard, hanging out with friends, and as hobbies fishing, gardening and wood crafting. In addition to his wife Rose with whom he shared 34 years of marriage, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Joseph and Susan Furtado of Lynn, Becky Coelho of Peabody, Paula and Scott Wilson of Rochester, NH, and Antonio A. “Tony” and Christina Furtado of Peabody; his grandchildren, Krystal and Klarrisa Wilson, David, Ethan, Jessica, Trinity, Jocelyn, and Isaiah Furtado; his siblings, Manuel Furtado of Peabody, Joao Furtado of OH and Maria Koxarkis and her husband Emmanuel of NH, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Mario Furtado. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, May 12, 2014 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed with his service at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
