Obituary of Meridy G. (Goddin) Giles

Meridy G. (Goddin) Giles,RN, 89, of Salem, MA died peacefully early Monday morning, May 12, 2014 at her residence with her family at her side. She was the wife of the late William F. Giles. She was born in Brockton, MA on March 28, 1925, the daughter of the late Eugene B. and Emeline (Bourne) Goddin and moved to Marblehead graduating from Marblehead High School in 1943, and later graduated from the Salem Hospital School of Nursing. Meridy had been a registered nurse at Winchester and the J.B.Thomas Hospital in Peabody and later with the Visiting Nurse Association in Salem and Marblehead for 12 years prior to her retirement. She had been a member of the League of Women Voters and also a member and former Sunday school teacher at the Old North Church, Marblehead. She was also an active member of the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI). She was an avid reader, and loved to knit. In her later years she became an invested member of the Baha’i faith. She is survived by her two daughters and sons in laws, Sandra and Edward Hennessy of Hockessin, Delaware and Barbara and Tony Klein of Marblehead, her sons, Arnold Giles of Beverly, MA, Warren and his wife Suzanne Giles of Chandler, AZ and Mark Giles of Salem, MA, a sister-in-law, Marilyn Goddin of PA, seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Eugene Goddin. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday morning from 10:30 to 12:30 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. A Baha'i Service will be held on Wednesday at 12:30 PM. Burial will follow at the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Charity of your choice.
