Obituary of Sister Margaret Frances Loftus, S.N.D.

Sister Margaret Frances Loftus, S.N.D., 88, of Ipswich, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Sisters of Notre Dame Julie Billiart Retirement Center in Ipswich. Sister Margaret Frances was born in Dorchester, on November 16, 1925, daughter of Michael and Margaret (Jordan) Loftus. Sister entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur on August 2, 1943 and professed her Perpetual Vows June 30, 1951. Sister Margaret Frances received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Emmanuel College and her Masters from Boston College. Her teaching ministries were at St. John the Baptist School in Peabody, Notre Dame Academy in Roxbury and CC High School in So. Boston, then Sister served as an administrator in Okayama and Kurashiki Japan, and was employed in several capacities at the Mission Sec. and GLC in Rome, the USCMA in Washington, D.C. and as an Ethnic Apostolate in Boston. Sister Margaret Frances is survived by her many Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur family; her brother, Thomas J. Loftus of Nahant; 5 nephews, Tom, Richard, James, John and William. She was predeceased by her siblings, Mary F. Loftus and James J. Loftus. Sister Margaret Frances’ Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at Our Lady Queen Chapel, 30 Jeffreys Neck Rd., Ipswich. Relatives and friends may pay their respect on Monday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Sisters of Notre Dame. At 2:30 p.m. a Prayer Service will be held for Sister. Memorial contributions may be made in Sister Margaret Frances’ name to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 30 Jeffreys Neck Rd., Ipswich, MA 01938. Burial at Notre Dame Cemetery, Ipswich.
