Obituary of Phyllis M. (Hooper) Drew

Phyllis M. (Hooper) Drew, 90, devoted wife of William F. Drew, died with her family by her side at the Kaplan Family Hospice House on Thursday, May 22, 2014. Mrs. Drew was born in Saugus, on April 21, 1924, daughter of Fred B. and Anne M. (Devlin) Hooper. She was raised in Saugus and graduated from Saugus High School. She and her husband moved to Peabody in 1950. Mrs. Drew was a loving mother who devoted her life to creating a home for her family. She then enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and great-granddaughters and supporting them in their endeavors. Phyllis was an avid bird watcher, a fan of the Boston Red Sox and watching pro golfing tournaments. In addition to her husband with whom she shared 67 years of marriage, she is survived by her children and their spouses, David W. and Karen Drew of Beverly, and Deborah A. “Debbie” and Richard Shanahan of Rowley; her grandchildren and their spouses, Richard and Amy Shanahan of Salem, Erin and David Volkmann of Lynnfield, and Allison and Kris Hardenbrook of Beverly; 5 great-granddaughters, Beverly Shanahan, Paige Volkmann, Rose Shanahan, Zoey Yi Hardenbrook and Lilah Volkmann, and many nieces and nephews. Her grandson Timothy Shanahan predeceased her. Phyllis family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home. The family requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Phyllis’ name to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA 01923.
