Obituary of Mary R (Cecere) Covino

Mary Rose (Cecere) Covino, 93, of West Peabody and formerly of Chelsea, died Friday, May 23, 2014 at the NSMC Union Hospital in Lynn after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Saverio R. Covino. She was born in Cambridge, MA on May 17, 1921, the daughter of the late Luigi and Nancy (De Fazio) Cecere and was raised and educated in Chelsea before moving to West Peabody 25 years ago. Mary had been a hostess and the MIT Faculty Club in Cambridge for 30 years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed dancing and was the first one up when the band started playing. She also loved to cook making special Italian dishes from her family recipes. Mary was easy spirited and loved a good time. She was always the life of the party and the first one on the dance floor. She had a great sense of humor and often made herself laugh. She loved her family very much and called her grandchildren "the apple of her eye." Her first great grandson is due to be born in October. We will miss her smile. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Steven Spinale of West Peabody, her cherished grandchildren, Steven Spinale and his wife Julie from White Plains, NY and Nicole Spinale of Manhattan, NY , her brother, Louis Cecere of Chelsea and several nieces and nephews that were dear to her heart. She was the sister of the late John, Albert, William and Alfred Cecere, Helen Ciampolillo, and Josephine Tino. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell St., West Peabody at 12 Noon.
