Our deepest sympathy goes out to Margo and Georges family for their loss.
We had the pleasure of working with George and remember the times when he went on break and fell asleep on the sofa in the breakroom. Those were the good old days. RIP George.

I knew George many years ago when we both worked at Jordan Marsh. He was a terrific guy, a real gentleman. Always professional. He had a very dry wit. If you said something to him, and he wasn't either buying into it, or thought you were coming out of left field, he'd give you a "George look" that would just make you break up. He was truly one of the good guys.

I had the pleasure of working with George for many years at Macy's. He was one of the good ones. He will be sadly missed.

I had the pleasure of working with George at Jordan Marsh and also playing softball with him for many years. He always had a smile on his face and kept everyone loose with his witty comments. We also lived in the same town (Merrimac) and Meredith would babysit out two girls. To the entire Whitmore family, I am sorry for your loss.

I'll always remember the good times with George, hiking and camping in the White Mountains (he "bagged" more than one four thousand footer), playing tennis and ping pong (he was a natural athlete, ambidextrous, and hated to lose), backgammon, shooting sports (rifles and archery), discussing politics or the latest Louis L'Amour novel. George was willing, even anxious, to try anything new, and enjoyed the journeys as well as the destinations. He was not a complainer, even when suffering and battling with those demons that plagued him for so long. He had a great, dry sense of humor, and the ability to see beyond the seriousness of life, even as it weighted him down.
George was one of the best friends I ever had, one of the most intelligent people I've ever known, and, when he was in control of those demons, just a great guy to be around. I hope he has finally found the peace that he sought for so long.
See ya, George.
Dave
