Obituary of Norberta Luz Picanco

Norberta Luz Picanco, 84, of Peabody, passed away Tuesday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Antonio Picanco, who passed away in 1993. Norberta was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on July 28, 1929, daughter of the late Pedro and Mariana (Luz) Pais. She was raised and educated in Portugal until moving to Peabody 47 years ago. Norberta was active in the Portuguese community of Peabody, where she was a member of the Holy Ghost Society, the Banda Recreativa de Peabody, and enjoyed attending the many Portuguese feasts and dances. She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody. Some of her favorite interests were visiting friends who were sick, in which she would cook and bring them food, babysitting many children throughout the years, but most importantly, enjoying the time she spent with her loving family. She is survived by her two daughters, Alvarina and her husband, Manuel Silva of Peabody, Julia Picanco Cunha of Peabody; her grandchildren, Jacqueline and her husband Kevin Hoyt, Ashley and Amanda Cunha, all of Peabody: her sister, Maria J. Silva of Peabody, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Americo Pais. A Visitation will be held Thursday, June 5, at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody from 4- 8PM. Her funeral will be held on Friday, June 6, at 8 A.M. in the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 9AM. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
