Having worked in a school system for 25 years, Mr. Murtagh was one of the finest educators I have ever met. I had three children at the Kiley School at the same time and he was never too busy to take the time to talk to me if I had questions.

Peabody has lost a fine man and educator.

Mr. Murtagh was a friend of the family and a great principal to my brother and I. He made a great impression on us while at the Kiley School. When I brought my kids to Peabody I took them by the school and I told them all about the school and its teachers, including Mr. M.
My condolences to his whole family.

Brian Less

My sincere condolences to the Murtagh family. Mr. Murtagh, in my mind, defined what an educator and school administrator should be. He knew when to be strict, when to be compassionate, and when to let his great sense of humor shine through. As a frequent visitor to "the office" during my days at the Kiley School, I had the opportunity to experience all three (a lot). I appreciate the opportunity to have gotten to know Mr. Murtagh, and am a better person for it. He touched a lot of lives, and his legacy lives on in his students and the many teacheers he guided, as well as his family.

Dear Sean & Colleen, and members of the Murtagh family. Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your father. We enjoyed getting to know Mr. Murtagh on his visits to East Greenbush as he got a kick watching Ashley, Michael and Jack have a ball in their awesome back yard. As a son of a fellow educator, as is my wife, we know firsthand the tremendous positive impact Mr. Murtagh had on so many lives while he was with us. He set a good example on a life well lived, fought a courageous battle at the end and will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both during this very difficult time. The love and strength of family will get you through this. He is now with God, is free from suffering and is watching all over you forever. Celebrate a life well lived and cherish the happy times together.

Love, Pat & Tricia

Mr Murtaugh you will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. You were my Principal during my six years at the Kiley Bros Memorial School. You were kind, understanding and a great influence on my life. I'm sure you underestimated the impact you have had on hundreds and hundreds of students that passed through the doors of your school. Thank you, Mr Murtaugh for being the kind of Principal I can tell my kids about. You were one in a million.

Mr.Murtagh, you were such a huge part of my childhood and I will continue to talk to my own kids about how special it was to be a "Kiley Kid". I saw you not too long ago and you knew exactly who I was without a second thought. You hadn't changed one bit. I was able to introduce you to my own 3 kids, and tell them some funny stories about my kiley days. It's a memory I still cherish. I was saddened to hear of your passing....your family are in my thoughts and prayers. RIP Mr.Murtagh......

To the Murtagh Family,
Our heartfelt sympathies to all of you at this difficult time.
I was lucky to end my teaching career at the Kiley school where I was part of the Kiley "family "with Jack at the helm. He gave me the liberty to be creative as possible with my students. He let me teach them "Lessons in life", Toys for TOTS, DAFFODIL DAYS AND THE KILEY GARDEN that I took over when Janet retired.
His office door was never closed to teacher or student. He always valued family and knew that things happened at home that had to be taken care of and was always understanding if we were late or had to leave early to be a MOM. He was a Gentle Giant to all. May he rest in peace and know he will be watching over his precious family.
You are in our prayers and thoughts,
Carol and Ted Robbins

You were always bigger than life when it came to your pupils at Kiley Brothers Memorial School. You oversaw the lives of so many young children that looked up to you and the way you would explain things to us with such kindness and patience. For most of us, you were the first person we came across and likely feared (the principal), until we met you and then it was hard not to just look up to you as the gentle giant that you were. Rest easy knowing that you helped shape the lives of almost the entire "cooler" part of West Peabody. RIP Mr. Murtaugh!

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Murtagh. I had the honor of working for him at the Kiley school. Although I only worked for him for a short time, he left a lasting impression on me, both as an educator and a man. He always had a smile and a nice thing to say, especially for the children. You will find no one kinder, more caring, dedicated and loved than him. My prayers go out to his family.
Marlene Pittsley
