Obituary of Joan "Joanne" Mandragouras

Joan “Joanne” (Scangas) Mandragouras, 97, of Lynnfield and formerly of Peabody, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and hostess to so many, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday June 12 with her husband Theodore of 68 years and her loving family by her side. She always welcomed anyone who came into her home with warmth and gracious hospitality. Joanne was born in Peabody and grew up with her parents George and Katherine (Sarbanis) Scangas and her siblings Helen, John, Angelo, Sally, Anthony, Julia, Margaret, Angelica, and Carol. Joanne graduated from the Peabody School system and was a former employee of Sylvania prior to staying home to raise her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and entertaining and will be remembered by all for her willingness to serve others. She is survived by her daughters Elaine Daileanes and her husband Charles of Lexington, her loving daughter and caregiver Kathy Mandragouras of Lynnfield, and her son George Mandragouras and his wife Jeanette of Peabody. She leaves her loving grandchildren, Stergeos “Steve” Daileanes, Martha Sevigny and her husband Thomas, all of Lexington, Jonathan Mandragouras of Peabody, Jennifer and her husband Tim Pafford of Fort Worth, Texas. Joanne also leaves her great grandchildren, Christian, Noah, and Grace Sevigny and Joshua and Braeden Pafford. She is also survived by a sister Sally Ritsos and her husband Petros of Peabody, a sister-in-law, Beatrice Scangas of Lynnfield along with several nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the St. Vasilios Bell Tower Fund, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
