Obituary of John P. Lyons
John P. Lyons, 85, of Peabody, loving husband of Kathryn A. (LaPointe) Lyons who predeceased him on May 20, 2014, died on Tuesday, July 2, 2014 at Beverly Hospital with his family by his side.
John was born in Danvers, on August 30, 1928, son of Thomas and Florence (Walsh) Lyons. He was raised and educated in Danvers and in 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in Korea with the Heavy Tank CO 7th Infantry Division as a Master Sergeant for 4 years before being Honorably Discharged on December 15, 1951. In 1954 he moved to Peabody where he resided for most of his life.
John was employed for 32 years as a typewriter repairman at the Typewriter Specialist Company in Lynn until his retirement in 1988. John devoted his life to creating a home for his family and then enjoying and supporting his 3 grandchildren in their endeavors. He and his wife Kathryn with whom he shared 60 years of marriage enjoyed spending time on vacations with their families, going to Foxwoods and Las Vegas. John was a member and Past President of the VFW Witch City Post 1524 in Salem, and as hobbies he enjoyed vegetable gardening and his coin and stamp collection.
He is survived by his 3 children, Robert P. Lyons and his wife Linda of Salem, Kevin J. Lyons of Wenham, and Mark M. Lyons of Peabody, his cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Patrick and Julia Lyons; a brother and his wife, Charles and Ruth Ann Lyons of Danvers; a sister, Angie Pickett of SC; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by a daughter Laurene Lyons and 11 siblings.
His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, July 7, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Louis Bourgeois officiating.
