Bill was always a great friend to me and to my two sons Michael and Andrew. I remember the "Great Run" Salem High's Basketball Team had winning the State Championship in the 1989-1990 season.Bill and I had a lot great talks an memories of those "Golden Years". I last saw him this past summer at the Peabody YMCA and we exchange good sports memories. He will be missed as the greatest Sports Editor the North Shore ever produced.Bill's family we are so sorry for your loss of such a great human being. They broke the mold when God made Bill. I was deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of "Kipper!" We got to know each other in the early 1980's in the press room of the old Boston Garden, oovering the Bruins, when I was a young sportscaster & he had just left the Herald to join the Salem News. Bill was tremendously, kind & supportive of me as a fellow Greek-American, breaking into the highly competitive sport media business in Boston. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of Greater Boston athletes & I can remember him telling stories of watching guys like Bobby Carpenter & John Tudor develop thru high school into the pros. The conversation would always revert to the man that "Kipper" & everyone else who ever saw him play would agree--Harry Agganis! Bill was convinced that Harry Agganis was the greatest all around athlete EVER who grew up in the state of Mass. Our Greek Orthodox faith has a wonderful expression that very much applies to "Kipper" May his memory be eternal! God bless! YASOU! Ted Sarandis West Palm Beach Florida

As someone who used to try and compete with Kipper on a daily basis, I can say that while that was rough going, he never was. He always considered competitors to be fellow travelers doing their best, and regarded them as friends. Happy to have known you along the way, Kipper.

My thoughts & prayers are with the family on this sober occasion. I met Bill several years ago when we were both starting our careers. During my coaching years, Bill wrote many stories about my teams. We became good friends & spent time together while I was watching my son play hockey for <br>Salem State. I will always fondle remember our trip to Alaska with the team. He was a great writer & treated ALL Athletes fairly. Many people come into your life, but no one left a positive mark on everyone as Kip did. I feel sorry for the kids today who will never experience knowing Kip. I am sorry that I am in Europe, and will not be able be with Kip.

Kipper and I are Bass Fishing buddies. We went fishing on Fri. 6/7/2014. We were planning a trip to Maine, our favorite place after July forth. I called him July 1 to talk about many things including our next trip. I had just finished re-stringing all his rods. We have caught many a bass I the past 15 years, I will surely miss him. I remember meeting with a bunch of sportswriters a few years back and one lamented that there was nothing to write during the summer.<br>Kipper scoffed and said, "There is always something."<br>For 50 years he always had plenty of good stories. Nobody had his sources, his Rolodex, his drive, his love of local sports. What an amazing career he had.<br>Mike Muldoon, Eagle-Tribune sportswriter
